El Salvador is located in Central America, wedged between Guatemala and Honduras, facing the North Pacific Ocean. The total area of this country is 21,041 square kilometers, making it around 384 times smaller than the United States. The terrain consists of primarily mountains with a narrow coastal belt and central plateau. The biggest mountain in the country is called Cerro El Pital, and peaks at 2,730 meters. El Salvador is sometimes referred to as "the land of volcanoes", because well.....it has a lot of volcanoes.
