Sugar is the second most important crop, and is grown by independent producers. In 1991, sugar cane production reached up to 5.5 million tons! Other grains are also grown in the country, like corn, sorghum, rice, and beans.(Nations Encyclopedia). These crops are grown in the country are also used in the majority of El Salvador cuisine.
Industry and Tourism:
El Salvador has tourism year-round. Tourism peaks in Christmas, Easter, and during special celebrations. Most tourism occurs during the dry season, which is from April until November (Smarter Travel).
Cultural Activities:
The Festival of Fire is held every year in a small town called Nejapa on August 31st. Residents of the town gather to commemorate the 1922 eruption of a volcano that led to the fleeing of the towns inhabitants. To create a form a symbolism, the members of the town throw balls of fire at each other (The Culture Trip). Doesn't that sound like fun?
